36 passengers capsizes in Brahmaputra River

Boat carrying around 36 passengers capsized in Brahmaputra river in Guwahati, Assam; Two bodies recovered so far; Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh speaks to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and takes stock of the situation.

A private country boat carrying at least 36 persons capsized in the Brahmaputra in Guwahati on Wednesday afternoon.

Two bodies have been recovered so far while another 11 passengers have been rescued or managed to swim safely.

Along with passengers, the boat also carried motorbikes and goods.

The ill fated boat was going to North Guwahati from Guwahati when the accident occurred.

The boat reportedly hit a pole of a water supply project following the failure of the engine.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and took stock of the situation.
