Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by a Mumbai court

A Mumbai court has remanded comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachia in judicial custody till December 4 in connection with the seizure of cannabis from their residence.

The couple was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Bharti was arrested on Saturday and her husband was arrested on Sunday after being questioned for 12 hours.

They were arrested after NCB Sleets seized marijuana (cannabis) from her home in suburban Andheri. An NCB official said both Singh and her husband were accused of consuming cannabis.

A case has been registered against them under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The NCB on Saturday conducted a search at Singh’s office and residence as part of its investigation into drug use in the entertainment industry and seized 86.5 grams of marijuana during the search.

An NCB official said that as opposed to the “commercial size” that Singh had seized from the occupation, it would be considered “small size” under the NDPS Act.

1,000 grams of marijuana is considered a small quantity that carries a jail term of up to six months and / or a fine of up to Rs 10,000. Seizure in commercial quantities – 20 kg or more – is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. For this size, the sentence could be up to 10 years in prison.

Bharti Singh has appeared in many comedy and reality shows on TV and has also hosted a few such shows.

The NCB is investigating drug use in Bollywood after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June this year, based on WhatsApp chats related to drugs.

The central agency had earlier arrested a Rajput friend, actress Riya Chakraborty, her brother Shoaik, employees of the late film star and others under various sections of the NDPS Act.
