CWG 2022: India wins gold in TT and lawn bowls on day five and silver for the badminton mixed team



Birmingham: The fifth day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 was another successful and golden day for India. On the fifth day, India added a total of four more medals, including two gold, to their tally. India’s total went up to 13, which includes 5 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

India created history in lawn bowls, winning gold medals.

The quartet of Lovely Choubey, Roopa Rani Tirkey, Pinky and Nayanmoni Saikia defeated South Africa (17-10) in the final to win the gold medal. This is the country’s first medal in the game of lawn bowls.

Another medal for India in weightlifting.

India’s Vikas Thakur won the silver medal in the men’s 96kg event with a total of 346kg (155kg snatch and 191kg clean and jerk). This is India’s eighth medal in weightlifting.

In table tennis, India won one gold and one silver medal.


The Indian men’s table tennis team defeated Singapore to win their second consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. However, the mixed badminton team could not repeat their feat of Gold Coast 2018, and the team had to be content with a silver medal.

India’s amazing in athletics too.

Wherein, in athletics, Murali Sreeshankar and Mohammad Anees Yahiya have qualified for the finals of men’s long jump. Star shot put player Manpreet Kaur has also qualified for the final.

India’s performance in swimming was also excellent.

In the men’s 200m backstroke, India’s Srihari Natraj clocked a national record time of 2:00.84 and finished ninth in qualifying. At the same time, swimmers Kushagra Rawat and Advait Page finished the last two places in the qualification to make it to the men’s 1500m freestyle final.

Weightlifter Poonam Yadav returned empty-handed from the women’s 76kg category in her three clean and jerk lifts. While Dutee Chand finished fourth in the 100m race, India lost 1-3 to England in a women’s Pool A match. Saurav Ghosal will compete for bronze after losing in the semi-finals of men’s singles squash.
