CWG 2022: Weightlifter Achinta Shuli wins India’s third gold medal



Birmingham: Weightlifter Achinta Shuli (73 kg) lived up to the expectations and won India’s third gold medal at the Commonwealth Games here.
India’s 20-year-old lifter Shuli claimed gold in the men’s 73kg category with a new total of 313kg.
He surpassed Eri Hidayat Muhammad of Malaysia by lifting 143kg in snatch and 170kg in clean and jerk. A Malaysian player won the silver medal with a total weight of 303 kg, while S. Darsigny of Canada won the bronze medal with a total weight of 298 kg.
Shuli’s gold is India’s third and sixth overall medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, all of which have come in weightlifting.
Before Shuli, Mirabai Chanu, and Jeremy Lalrinnuga won gold for India.
