Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj died in New Delhi on Tuesday night; She was 67.
Several senior ministers including Health Minister Harsh Vardhan reached AIIMS after being hospitalized.
Sushma Swaraj had a kidney transplant in 2016 and opted to contest the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year due to health reasons.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President and Home Minister Amit Shah and many other leaders have mourned the demise of Sushma Swaraj.
President Kovind said in his condolence message, he is very shocked to hear about the demise of Sushma Swaraj. He said, the country has lost a very dear leader, who is a symbol of dignity, courage and integrity in public life.
The President said, ever ready to help others, he will always be remembered for his service to the people of India.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said, Sushma Swaraj’s death is a great loss for the country and her personal loss. He said, Swaraj was an outstanding administrator, outstanding parliamentarian and a notable speaker.
Condoling the demise of Sushma Swaraj, Prime Minister Modi said that a magnificent chapter in Indian politics has ended. In a series of tweets, he said, India mourns the demise of a notable leader, who dedicated his life to public service and the lives of the poor. He called her death a personal loss.
The Prime Minister said, Sushma Swaraj was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people. He said, Sushma ji was a prolific sentry and outstanding parliamentarian who was appreciated and respected in the party lines.
Describing him as an excellent administrator, the Prime Minister said, Swaraj set high standards in every ministry he handled. Mr. Modi said, in this unfortunate moment, his thoughts are with his family, supporters and fans.
In his condolence message, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, Sushma Swaraj was an experienced MP and was widely respected on the lines of the party.

The mortal remains of the late leader have been brought to his residence from AIIMS, New Delhi. Speaking to reporters, BJP Working President JP Nadda said that mortal remains of Swaraj would be kept at his residence to pay the last respects to the people.
He said, at around 11 am today, his mortal remains will be brought to the BJP headquarters to pay their last respects. After that at 3 pm, his body will be taken to the Lodhi Road crematorium, where he will be cremated with full state honors.
