In a case of honor killing in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, a woman was burnt alive by her family members for having a Muslim lover, police said on Monday, February 15. The family hired a contract killer and paid him Rs 1.5 lakh to end her relationship with a Muslim man.
Her family members, including her father, brother, brother-in-law and another man, reported a daily english news paper in connection with the case.
The victim’s father Kailash Yadav, brother Ajit Yadav, brother Satyaprakash Yadav and a Sitaram Yadav were arrested on Sunday. Police also seized a petrol container and a motorcycle used in the crime. Contract killer,” a police official said.
The half-burnt body of the woman was found on February 4 in Jigna village within the confines of Dhangata police station, Sant Kabir Nagar Superintendent of Police, Kaustub said at a press conference on Sunday. The body of Ranjana Yadav, a resident of Belghat area in Gorakhpur, was found by local police with the help of surveillance, CCTV footage, field unit and dog squad.
The victim’s father told police that his daughter had an affair with a Muslim man. When his daughter was not ready to give in to the Muslim man, he and his family took this drastic action to kill her.
According to police, one of the accused took the woman on a motorcycle to a deserted place in Zigina village on February 3. The other accused joined him and tied the woman’s hands and mouth. Police said the accused poured petrol on her and tried to burn her .
