Shimla, 21 October: 176 players from Himachal Pradesh will participate in the 37th National Games to be held in Goa from October 26 to October 9. Apart from this, 18 officials will also go to Goa for these games. The rules for participation in the National Games are that only those teams or state teams that are in the top eight rankings in the National Championships are eligible to participate.
Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association General Secretary Rajesh Bhandari gave this information in a press conference on Saturday.
He said the national sports include athletics, boxing, cycling, fencing, judo, kalaripayattu, kabaddi, netball women, netball quick, shooting, swimming, sepaktakraw, snooker-billiard, taekendo wrestling, wushu, volleyball, and handball.
He informed us that Ramesh Chauhan, Secretary, HP Judo Association, will lead the team as Chef de Mission, Anurag Verma, District Sports Officer, Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, and Kuldeep Rana, President, HP Wrestling Association, will lead the team as Deputy Chef de Mission. Apart from this, Vinod Kumar and Santosh Kumar will accompany the team as assistant officers.
Rajesh Bhandari said that the 18-member netball team has already left for Goa as their programme starts on October 22. While other players will leave for Goa as per their schedule of games.
