Japan will achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga says the country will achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Suga made the announcement in his policy address to the first parliamentary session since taking office last month.

The Prime Minister said that a sustainable economy should be made the cornerstone of his growth strategy and maximum effort should be made to achieve a green society.

Suga stressed the need to move away from fossil fuels to deal with climate change as an opportunity rather than a burden.According to Japan’s current energy plan, 56 percent of its energy needs come from fossil fuels.
