PDP chief and former CM Mehbooba Mufti was allegedly detained and shifted from her residence in Srinagar to a guest house, where she was under house arrest. Mufti, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and other mainstream Kashmir leaders were placed under arrest on the eve of the central decision of the central government to abolish a special statue for Jammu and Kashmir. People’s Conference president and former BJP colleague Sajjad Lone, Imran Ansari was also taken into custody on Monday.
With the dilution of Article 370, the government also decided to divide the state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir without a legislature and Ladakh without one. A statutory resolution on Article 370 and the State Reorganization Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha this evening and will be put up for voting in the Lok Sabha tomorrow.
