Mumbai on High Alert After WhatsApp Bomb Threat Ahead of Ganpati Visarjan

Mumbai : Mumbai Police went on high alert after a late-night WhatsApp message claimed that 34 vehicles had been rigged with human bombs and that nearly 400 kg of RDX could be used to cause mass destruction. The sender, identifying himself as a member of Lashkar-e-Jihadi, alleged that 14 Pakistani terrorists had infiltrated India.

The threat was received on the Mumbai Traffic Police WhatsApp helpline on Thursday night. Immediately, a case was registered, and an intensive search operation began across the city. With Ganpati Visarjan 2025 scheduled for Saturday, security arrangements have been scaled up at sensitive points, including parking areas, basements, and public gathering spaces.

Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Chaudhary assured citizens: “Mumbai Police and security forces are fully prepared to handle any situation. We are leaving no area unchecked. Citizens are requested not to panic and to report suspicious activity immediately.”

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and intelligence agencies have joined the probe to verify the threat’s authenticity and trace its origin. Meanwhile, additional forces have been deployed in Mumbai to ensure a safe and peaceful Ganesh idol immersion.

Mumbai Police have appealed to residents to stay calm, avoid spreading rumors, and remain cooperative during the investigation.
