Pakistan protests India’s permanent and temporary membership in the Security Council

Addressing the world body on Tuesday, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative in the United Nations Munir Akram said that in our view, at least one member of the G4 group does not qualify to be a permanent or temporary member of the Security Council.

The G4 group includes India, Brazil, Germany and Japan, which support each other’s permanent membership in the Security Council. Akram mentioned the Kashmir issue without naming India, saying that the country had openly violated the Security Council’s proposals.

It is to be noted that on August 5, India revoked most of the provisions of Article 370 applicable to the then state of Jammu and Kashmir, after which tensions between India and Pakistan increased.
