Pope Francis’ funeral will take place on Saturday at 10 AM in St. Peter’s Square, as announced by the Vatican. His body will be moved to St. Peter’s Basilica tomorrow for public viewing. The funeral rites will be led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, along with various bishops and cardinals.
The ceremony will finish with the Ultima Commendatio and Valedictio, beginning nine days of mourning for the Pope. Post-funeral, his body will be transferred to St. Mary Major Basilica, with ceremonies led by Cardinal Kevin Farrell on April 23 at 9 AM.
The procession will pass through significant sites, concluding at St. Peter’s Square, where Cardinal Farrell will oversee final honors, following his assumption of leadership in the Vatican after the Pope’s death.
