Hundreds of Punjab farmers gathered at the Shambhu toll plaza today to join farmers protesting outside the Karnal minor secretariat in the “Haryana Kisan Bachao” march.
A large cavalcade of vehicles was sighted on the Ambala-Delhi NH, carrying BKU (Charuni) flags and banners of “Mission Punjab 2022.” Farmers from Haryana greeted them at the toll plaza.
Farmers from Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala claimed they were heading to Karnal to show their support for demonstrators. They claimed that if their demands are not granted, other Punjabi groups will join the Karnal dharna.
“We support farmers’ demands,” said Sarabjit Singh, a farmer leader from Punjab. If the demands are not met, more ‘jathas’ will arrive in Karnal every day.”
“Hundreds of FIRs have been filed against farmers for protesting, but no action has been taken against then-SDM Ayush Sinha, who ordered the police to crack down on farmers’ heads,” another farmer added. He ought to be arrested and discharged from the military.”
Meanwhile, farmers gathered at Pipli to commemorate a year of police brutality. Farmers and police battled on September 10 last year when the former were denied admission to the Pipli grain market to participate in a state-level ‘Kisan Bachao-Mandi Bachao’ racial riot.
