Second Phase of Jharkhand Elections: BJP’s Islamophobic Ads Draw Criticism

As Jharkhand prepares for the second phase of Assembly elections, the BJP has been accused of spreading Islamophobic and dehumanizing propaganda through their advertisements.

These ads, which were posted on different dates, were called out by the JMM and Congress for violating the Model Code of Conduct and inciting communal tensions for electoral gain.

The Election Commission of India has ordered the takedown of these ads from social media platforms and several pro-BJP accounts continue to share them. One such ad features actors portraying JMM chief Hemant Soren and his wife, Kalpana Murmu Soren, enjoying branded watches and sunglasses while discussing strategies to mislead voters with actors playing Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.

The ad also makes derogatory comments about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s actions during the Jharkhand statehood revolution and her treatment of Adivasis. These advertisements have sparked outrage and have been deemed unacceptable by many, highlighting the importance of responsible campaigning in democratic elections.
