Aquaculture in India is an important economic activity and a flourishing sector with varied resources and potentials. West Bengal is the leading fish producing and highest fish consuming state in the country and the no doubt the capital is the important gateway to most of our neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar.
In light of this scenario, a 3-day exhibition “ The Aqua Show 2019” launched in Kolkata on Thursday.
The Aqua Show 2019 is a first such attempt organised by Aquavet Consulting and Indian poultry review in collaboration with West Bengal University of Animal and Fisheries Science, Kolkata to showcase the technological advances, innovations and development achieved in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector for the benefit of fishers, fish farmers and aqua industry and create awareness among general public through exhibition and Knowledge Conclave.
Speaking of India’s enormous potential in the fisheries sector, Prof. Purnendu Biswas, Vice-Chancellor, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences stated that India is the second-largest fish producer in the world and fisheries and aquaculture are multidisciplinary subjects where scientists and technologists have to work as teams.
Mr. Biswas further said that initiatives like this must not only serve as platforms for sharing knowledge and information on new technologies but also strive to take this knowledge to the common people, fish farmers and primary producers.
Mr Tarun Shridhar, IAS (Retd.), Former Secretary, DADF, Govt. of India inaugurated the session and spoke about Sustainable Development of Indian Fisheries and the Policies to be implemented.
The Aqua Show 2019, Eastern India’s Biggest Integrated Techno-Commercial expo for Fisheries and Aquaculture is being organized jointly by Dr.Jeherul Islam, Dr Amit Das and Mr.Sanjoy Mukerji of Aquavet Consulting and Indian poultry review.
Mr.Chandra Nath Sinha, the West Bengal Minister for fisheries was also participated in the expo along with several eminent dignitaries like Dr.Andy Shinn, Director& Senior Scientist, Fish Vet Group Asia, Thailand, Dr Y Basava Raju, Former Dean- College of Fisheries, Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Science University, Mangalore and others.
