Police said a woman was given a ‘triple talaq’ in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, as she asked her husband for Rs 30 to buy medicine.
The incident happened two days ago and DSP, Hapur, Rajesh Singh said that the complaint of the woman had already been filed.
The woman, who got married three years ago, said that her husband takes her children out of the house.
He said, “I asked for 30 rupees to buy medicine and my husband started shouting at me. He recited ‘talaq’ thrice and his family members kicked me out of the house.”
The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Bill, 2019, which criminalizes instant ‘triple talaq’ among Muslims and draws that on 1 August, the husband was sentenced to three years in prison.
A woman in Sitapur earlier this month alleged that her in-laws had bitten her nose when she refused to withdraw the triple talaq case.
Another woman from Muzaffarnagar is divorced by her husband through triple talaq on WhatsApp, who works as a laborer in Kuwait. The divorce came after a dowry and harassment case was filed against him and his family.
