Taking swift action to trace the sensational murder of the vet, the Cyberabad police have picked up four persons — truck drivers and cleaners, who were allegedly involved in the crime.
The main suspect has been identified as Mohammad Pasha, a resident of Narayanpet in Mahbubnagar district.
He, along with other attackers Naveen, Keshavulu and Siva, suspected kidnapping, gang-rape and murder of the deceased in Shadnagar area of Ranga Reddy district.
Police had earlier recovered the body of 27-year-old vet P Priyanka Reddy in Shadnagar.
Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali drew widespread criticism, saying in a comment that the vet should call the police instead of his sister as it could have saved his life.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, the minister said that if someone calls the police on 100, the help will reach them within three minutes.
According to the police, the deceased called her sister at around 9.45 pm and informed her of the help given to her.
Investigators suspect that the attackers had punctured her scooter and abducted her on the pretext of helping her repair the flat tire.
The accused took him to a secluded place near Tondupalli toll gate, raped him and committed heinous acts among the trucks parked there.
His body was later exhumed from under the highway.The accused later transferred the scooter of the victim and left him on the roadside in Kothur.
The accused were caught on the basis of CCTV footage from surveillance cameras showing a lorry bearing number TS07UA 3335 operated by the main suspect Pasha.
