Guwahati : The five-day winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began at 9.30 am on Tuesday. This session will run till 24 December. Amidst uproar in the House, an MLA was expelled for the rest of the day. All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLAs staged a protest at the Vidhansabha gate to protest against the removal of encroachments in Batadrava.
As soon as the session started on Tuesday, Akhil Gogoi, the only MLA of his party and Sivasagar assembly constituency, raised the question of women’s safety. Gogoi told the House that according to the NCRB report, Assam is the first state in terms of atrocities on women. During Akhil Gogoi’s speech, Assembly Speaker Bishwajit Daimari said, ‘Ask questions, leave the speech. Why speech on supplementary question? An uproar started in the house on this. Thereafter, the Speaker expelled Akhil Gogoi from the House for the duration of the Question Hour. Marshal ousted Akhil Gogoi from the House.
AIUDF MLAs, who arrived to attend the assembly session, demonstrated at the assembly gate in protest against the removal of encroachments in Batdrava. In fact, the district administration has launched a campaign since Monday to remove illegal encroachments on government land in Batdrava of Nagaon district. In protest against this, all the MLAs of AIUDF met at the entrance of the Vidhansabha and protested for some time. AIUDF MLAs say that we will strongly oppose this arbitrary attitude of the government outside and inside the house. He said that this is an undemocratic way of government.
