Bihar Voter List Revision: Nearly 2 Lakh Pleas for Exclusion, 30,000 for Inclusion

Patna: The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday said it has received nearly 1.98 lakh applications for exclusion of names from the draft voters’ list in Bihar, while around 30,000 pleas have been filed for inclusion. The revision is part of the Special Intensive Revision exercise ahead of the state assembly polls likely in November.

The draft electoral rolls, published on August 1, remain open for “claims and objections” till September 1. Under election law, individuals or political parties can challenge names they believe are ineligible, while eligible voters left out can apply for inclusion. So far, booth-level agents of political parties have filed 25 inclusion claims and 103 exclusion objections.

According to the EC, 99.11% of Bihar’s 7.24 crore electors have already submitted their documents for verification. The final rolls will be published on September 30. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has directed the EC to accept Aadhaar or any of the 11 listed identity documents for voter inclusion. The poll panel has urged the court to repose trust in its handling of the revision process in the poll-bound state.
