In the 49th match of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings triumphed over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 4 wickets, securing second place on the points table while knocking CSK out of playoff contention. Yuzvendra Chahal starred for Punjab, taking a hat-trick and dismissing four batsmen in a single over, which broke down Chennai’s batting lineup.
Played at Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk), Punjab chased a target of 191 runs. They had a solid start with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran; however, Arya fell for 23 runs. Prabhsimran and captain Shreyas Iyer then built a 75-run partnership before Prabhsimran was dismissed after scoring 54 runs. Nehal Wadhera scored just 5 runs before being dismissed, while Shashans Singh added 23 runs. Despite the frequent fall of wickets, Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with a brilliant 72 off 41 balls. Though he couldn’t finish the game himself, Marco Jansen and Josh Inning guided Punjab across the line, with Jansen remaining unbeaten on 4 runs and Inning on 6.
In the earlier innings, CSK managed 190 runs, with Sam Curran as the top scorer at 88. For Punjab, Chahal’s impressive bowling claimed four wickets, supported by Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen with two wickets each.
