Hyderabad: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Prohibition and Excise Department arrested four persons and seized 5.24 kilograms of ganja during a raid conducted in the city on Saturday.
Acting on specific information, the STF team carried out a search operation at the residence of Vikas Singh, also known as Vicky, where the contraband was allegedly stored. During the raid, officials recovered the ganja concealed inside a room of the house.
According to excise officials, the accused was allegedly procuring the contraband from suppliers and distributing it to customers in different parts of the city with the assistance of his associates.
During the operation, the STF team also seized four motorcycles suspected to have been used for transportation and distribution of the narcotic substance. Five mobile phones believed to be linked to the illegal activity were also taken into custody for further investigation.
Officials said four more persons suspected to be part of the network are currently absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and further investigation is in progress to identify the supply chain and other possible links.
The Prohibition and Excise Department said it would continue its enforcement drives against drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information about illegal narcotics activity. Officials reiterated their commitment to curb drug distribution and maintain vigilance against organised drug networks.
