RIAAN.TV Election Watch | Week 3: Manifestos, campaign push and voter roll tensions shape poll narrative

As election campaigning gathered pace across poll-bound states during the third week of the election cycle, political developments ranged from manifesto announcements and campaign realignments to Election Commission actions and intensified grassroots mobilisation.

In Assam, the BJP released its election manifesto outlining governance priorities, infrastructure expansion and welfare commitments, signalling the party’s attempt to consolidate support ahead of polling scheduled for April 9.

The document focused on indigenous rights, employment generation, infrastructure investment and continuation of welfare schemes. The party also highlighted plans for economic expansion and social sector development as part of its campaign outreach.

Campaigning in Assam has continued despite logistical challenges including intermittent rainfall that affected public meetings and outreach programmes in several constituencies. Political parties have responded by increasing smaller meetings and strengthening booth-level mobilisation.

Senior leaders from both ruling and opposition parties have addressed multiple rallies as campaigning entered a crucial phase. At the organisational level, parties are focusing on strengthening booth networks, recognising that last-mile mobilisation often plays a decisive role in close contests.

In West Bengal, the campaign environment remained politically active with exchanges between major parties over governance issues, welfare delivery and electoral processes.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing campaign meetings, raised concerns relating to voter list revisions and financial awareness among citizens while also highlighting state welfare initiatives.

At the same time, the Election Commission took administrative action in connection with election preparedness, including disciplinary steps against an official following an incident during a poll training programme.

The Commission also sought reports from state authorities regarding disturbances linked to electoral roll concerns, underlining the importance being placed on maintaining the integrity of the election process.

Political observers note that voter list scrutiny and administrative neutrality have emerged as important talking points in the Bengal campaign narrative.

In Tamil Nadu, candidate announcements and campaign tours dominated the week’s developments. The BJP released its candidate list for seats allotted under its alliance arrangement, drawing attention to key inclusions and exclusions.

At the same time, Chief Minister M K Stalin intensified campaign outreach through public meetings and roadshows across southern districts, indicating the importance of regional strongholds in the electoral battle.

Party strategies in the state appear focused on cadre mobilisation and regional messaging as polling approaches.

The entry of well-known personalities into political parties also added another dimension to campaign narratives. Such developments are being projected as attempts to connect with younger voters and broaden political outreach.

Across states, campaign messaging increasingly reflects attempts to balance development narratives with identity concerns and governance issues.

Certain constituencies are also drawing attention due to local issues such as infrastructure gaps, unemployment concerns and healthcare access. Political observers say these constituency-level contests often reflect larger electoral trends.

Across poll-bound states, three broad campaign themes are becoming visible. Welfare assurances continue to dominate political messaging, particularly those relating to financial support and social schemes. Employment generation and youth outreach remain major talking points. Administrative credibility and governance delivery are also emerging as key issues.

Political parties are also investing significant effort in booth-level mobilisation, digital communication and targeted voter outreach as the campaign moves into a decisive stage.

With polling dates approaching in several states, the coming days are expected to witness intensified campaigning, more visits by senior leaders and sharper political messaging.

Election authorities are also continuing preparations related to logistics, security arrangements and monitoring of Model Code compliance.

As the campaign enters the final stretch, the focus is expected to remain on voter outreach, local alliances and turnout management strategies.

The third week of campaigning suggests that while national narratives remain influential, local governance issues and constituency realities continue to play an important role in shaping electoral outcomes.
