Opposition seeks proactive steps to ensure safety of citizens in Middle East
New Delhi, February 28: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed concern over the rapidly escalating hostilities involving the United States, Israel and Iran, urging the Government of India to prioritise the safety of Indian citizens in the Middle East.
Speaking amid rising tensions in the region, Gandhi said the protection and security of every Indian living or working abroad must remain the government’s highest priority. He called for immediate and proactive measures to safeguard citizens in potentially affected areas.
The remarks come as diplomatic developments continue to unfold in West Asia, with global attention focused on the implications for regional stability, energy markets and international relations.
India has a significant expatriate population across Gulf countries and other parts of the Middle East, making regional security developments particularly sensitive from a humanitarian and diplomatic perspective.
While the government has not yet announced specific evacuation or advisory measures related to the latest escalation, officials have previously maintained that Indian missions remain in close contact with citizens and are monitoring developments.
The situation is expected to be closely watched in Parliament as discussions continue on foreign policy and national security implications.
