India’s star badminton player, P.V. Sindhu, began the Badminton Asia Championship impressively, progressing to the next round after defeating Indonesia’s Ester Nurumi Wardoyo in straight sets, with scores of 21-15, 21-19.
The match lasted 44 minutes, showcasing Sindhu’s experience against the 19-year-old Wardoyo, ranked 36th. In contrast, India’s Lakshya Sen and H.S. Prannoy were eliminated in the first round of the men’s singles event, disappointing fans as both had expectations to perform better.
Sindhu’s next challenge will be against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, the tournament’s third seed and fourth-ranked player globally, in the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday, a significant test for the accomplished athlete.
