Hyderabad: Officials of the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (TGFSL) on Saturday confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported following a fire incident at the laboratory premises.
According to officials, the fire was reported at around 10:08 am on the first floor of the laboratory building. The incident first came to notice when an employee observed smoke coming out from one of the rooms and immediately alerted fellow staff members as well as the police personnel stationed at the facility.
The employee also attempted to control the situation by using a fire extinguisher available on the premises as an initial response before the arrival of fire services.
Fire department personnel reached the location shortly after receiving the alert and managed to bring the flames under control within a short time, preventing the spread of the fire to other sections of the building.
Officials stated that most of the forensic samples, laboratory materials and case-related evidence stored in the facility remained safe and were not affected by the incident.
A formal complaint has been lodged with the local police station and authorities have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary indications suggest that the quick response by staff and emergency teams helped in minimising damage.
Officials said further assessment of the affected area is underway and necessary safety checks are being conducted. Steps are also expected to be taken to review fire safety mechanisms at the facility to prevent such incidents in future.
