HM Amit Shah Inaugurates ‘Brahmaputra Wing’ of Raj Bhavan in Guwahati, Launches Major Projects in Assam

Guwahati, Assam, August 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed ‘Brahmaputra Wing’ of Raj Bhavan in Guwahati, marking a major addition to the state’s administrative and cultural infrastructure. The inauguration ceremony was held amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and traditional rituals, highlighting Assam’s rich heritage.

New ‘Brahmaputra Wing’ at Raj Bhavan

The state-of-the-art Brahmaputra Wing has been built at a cost of ₹41 crore and offers a panoramic view of the iconic river Brahmaputra. The modern complex includes:

  • Governor’s Office and Additional Commissioner’s Office

  • A fully equipped Conference Hall and Waiting Lounge

  • A well-stocked Library

  • Governor’s Suite and a Presidential Suite

The inauguration was attended by Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and several senior state leaders. Former Governors Gulab Chand Kataria, Banwarilal Purohit, and Prof. Jagdish Mukhi also graced the occasion, along with Punjab Governor (and former Assam Governor).

Traditional Rituals Before Inauguration

Before the formal event, Amit Shah performed Gau Puja (cow worship) and planted a sapling on the Raj Bhavan premises, symbolizing harmony with nature and preservation of cultural traditions.

Launch of Key National Security and Welfare Projects

Alongside the inauguration, the Union Home Minister launched several crucial projects under the Ministry of Home Affairs in Assam, aimed at boosting national security, welfare, and law enforcement infrastructure:

  • National Cyber Forensic Laboratory at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy, Golaghat.

  • Modern residential complex with healthcare facilities for SSB families in Guwahati.

  • New ITBP facilities at Sonapur, including barracks for 360 personnel, a mess, and a 10-bed hospital.

  • IG Headquarters for Assam Rifles, along with a new unit at Silchar and administrative-residential blocks at Jorhat Centre.

Amit Shah Addresses NDA Panchayat Convention

After the inauguration, Amit Shah proceeded to Khanapara Field in Guwahati, where he addressed the NDA Panchayat Representatives’ Convention. Hundreds of local body representatives from across Assam participated in the event, showcasing grassroots political strength and the NDA’s focus on rural development.

The inauguration of the Brahmaputra Wing and other strategic projects underscores the Centre’s commitment to strengthening Assam’s infrastructure, security, and governance framework. The projects are expected to benefit not only the administration but also the people of Assam by enhancing law enforcement capabilities, family welfare facilities for paramilitary forces, and cultural preservation.
