Holi Buzz Returns to Hyderabad Markets Amid Date Confusion

Hyderabad: Markets across the city have begun to reflect the festive mood as residents prepare for Holi, though some confusion over the exact date of celebrations has slowed buying activity in certain areas.

In local bazaars, shops are lined with packets of gulal, water guns and festive decorations. While footfall has increased compared to regular days, traders say customers are still confirming the timing of Holika Dahan and colour celebrations before making larger purchases.

For many families, Holi begins with morning prayers before the colours come out. A resident from the Old City said rituals remain central to the festival.

“We complete our puja first and then celebrate with family and children. That is how we have always observed it,” he said.

Traders Note Calendar Confusion

Narayana, who has been selling Holi supplies near a commercial complex for several years, said customers have been asking about the exact date due to differences in calendars and holiday notifications.

“Some people believe it is today, others say tomorrow. Because of this, many are waiting before buying in bulk,” he explained.

He added that prices of colours have remained largely stable, with only marginal increases compared to last year. Herbal and skin-friendly gulal continue to see steady demand.

Regional Traditions Add Perspective

Raj, originally from Rajasthan and now settled in Hyderabad, shared how celebrations vary across states.

“In Rajasthan, celebrations extend over several days with traditional performances. Here, people are careful about the correct muhurat before observing Holika Dahan,” he said.

Some residents also mentioned that astronomical considerations this year have contributed to uncertainty about the exact timing of festivities.

Mixed Business Response

Veteran trader Rohit Vaski, who has been in the Holi goods business for over 40 years, said sales are lower compared to previous seasons.

“Business is not as strong as before. Many customers are also buying online,” he noted.

Shops have stocked a wide range of products, including herbal colours, premium gulal varieties and different types of pichkaris.

Festive Spirit Intact

Despite confusion over dates and cautious spending, the festive spirit remains visible. Children can be seen browsing colourful stalls, and families continue preparations for rituals and gatherings.

As always, Holi in Hyderabad blends devotion in the morning with celebration later in the day — marking the arrival of spring and reinforcing the spirit of togetherness.
