India and China have reached an agreement to undertake coordinated patrolling in Depsang and Demchok in Eastern Ladakh, as patrols are set to resume by the end of this month.
This move comes after the disengagement process commenced on Tuesday, with an expected completion date of October 29. The agreement, which was concluded at both a diplomatic and Corps Commander level, aims to restore the ground status to pre-April 2020 and allow Indian Army patrols to access strategic areas that were previously blocked by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
However, patrols will remain suspended in other friction points where disengagement has already taken place.
Adequate measures have been put in place to avoid face offs between troops, with regular discussions planned at various levels. This agreement marks a significant step towards easing tensions between the two countries and ensuring peace along the border.
