Over 15,900 Absent on Day One of Telangana Inter Exams

Hyderabad, 26 February : Nearly 16,000 students were absent on the first day of the Telangana Intermediate Public Examinations 2026, even as the examination was conducted smoothly across centres in the state.

The second language Paper-I examination, covering Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu and Arabic, was held from 9 am to 12 noon at 1,495 centres.

According to the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE), a total of 5,14,598 students had registered for the examination. Of them, 4,98,695 students appeared, while 15,903 remained absent.

Officials stated that no cases of malpractice were reported on the first day.

To ensure smooth conduct, authorities deployed 28,500 invigilators along with 1,495 chief superintendents and departmental officers. Additionally, 75 flying squads and 200 sitting squads were assigned for monitoring.

Reports indicated that some students who reached late were denied entry at examination centres in Jagityal, Nizamabad and Khammam districts, in accordance with examination guidelines.

TGBIE Secretary S Krishna Aditya inspected centres in Secunderabad and Marredpally to review arrangements. Board observers were also deputed to various districts to oversee the process.

Meanwhile, 5,07,949 second-year Intermediate students are scheduled to appear for the second language Paper-II on Thursday. The Intermediate Public Examinations will continue until March 18.
