SC to hear 10 pleas on Waqf Amendment Act tomorrow

The Supreme Court will hear petitions regarding the Waqf Amendment Act on April 16, led by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna. Ten petitions have been filed by various individuals and organizations, including Asaduddin Owaisi and Amanatullah Khan.

The central government has filed a caveat, seeking to present its arguments before any orders are issued. Previously, on April 7, the court assured it would address the petitions challenging the amendment.

Senior Advocate  Kapil Sibal, representing the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, urged for an expedited hearing. The petitions contend that the amendments infringe upon the religious and cultural autonomy of Muslims, arguing that they violate constitutional rights and impose arbitrary restrictions on the management of Waqf properties, thereby undermining minority rights to manage religious and charitable institutions.
