Today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present the Union Budget 2024 in Parliament, marking her seventh consecutive budget and surpassing the record of late Moraji Desai, who presented six consecutive budgets. The budget is expected to bring changes in the income tax structure and focus on improving the ease of doing business in India.
The presentation of the budget, which is the first under the Modi 3.0 government, will begin at 11 am and all eyes will be on the major announcements and forward-looking guidance by the finance minister. She will present a statement of estimated receipts and expenditures for the year 2024-25 in Rajya Sabha and will also table statements related to fiscal responsibility and budget management.
Additionally, statements related to the financial needs of Jammu and Kashmir (with legislature) will also be presented. This full budget comes after an interim budget was presented on February 1, taking care of the financial needs until a new government was formed after Lok Sabha polls. With this, Sitharaman will break Morarji Desai’s record of presenting five annual budgets and one interim budget as finance minister between 1959 and 1964.
The budget session, which began on July 22, is expected to conclude on August 12. All eyes are now on the finance minister as she lays out the financial roadmap for the upcoming year.
