A grenade attack took place last night at around 10 PM at the residence of Manoranjan Kalia, a former Punjab minister and senior BJP leader, in Jalandhar while he and his family were asleep. Only one security personnel was on duty, and the others were in barracks.
Upon learning of the attack, panic spread amongst the Punjab police, with senior officials quickly arriving at the scene. CCTV footage revealed that three attackers arrived on an e-rickshaw and a bike, with one throwing a grenade at Kalia’s house, causing a loud explosion.
Kalia’s security in-charge, Nishan Singh, along with other police personnel, quickly responded and alerted local police. The footage indicated that after the attack, one assailant fled towards the police station, another ran to a railway station, while the third escaped towards Shastri Market. Kalia initially mistook the noise for a transformer explosion.
Subsequent investigations by Jalandhar Police, including forensic teams, have begun, and clues were obtained from the footage, with a manhunt for the suspects in progress.
