Gujarat elections : 788 candidates are in the fray for 89 seats in the first phase

Ahmedabad: There are now 788 candidates in the fray for 89 seats in the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections. This information was given by Chief Electoral Officer P. Bharathi in Gandhinagar. The first phase of polling is to be held on December 1.

He told that in the first phase, two ballot units would be set up in the Morbi assembly constituency due to the presence of 17 candidates in the fray. Whereas in Surat’s Limbayat seat, three ballot units will be used as there are 44 candidates. He informed that special arrangements have been made for differently-abled voters, in which vehicle facility will be provided to bring and take them.

Apart from this, facilities will also be given to old and senior citizen voters. Apart from this, postal ballot facilities will also be made available. A discerning voter will be allowed to take one person with him. Voter slips in Braille script have been prepared for these voters. Posters have also been prepared for the disabled. Services of experts in Braille script will be made available for assistance at each district headquarters.

It is noteworthy that the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections to be held in two phases will be held on December 1. 1362 candidates had filed nominations for the first phase. After scrutiny on 15 November, nominations of 999 candidates were found valid. After November 17, the last date for withdrawal of nominations, now 788 candidates are in the fray for 89 seats in the first phase.

In the second phase, polling for 93 seats will be held on December 5. For this, 1515 candidates have filed nominations from 10 to 17 November. Here November 21 is fixed for the withdrawal of nominations.
