New Delhi : For the first time this year, Navy Day celebrations will be held outside the national capital. The event to be held on the beach of Visakhapatnam will have ‘Operational Demonstration’. Naval ships, submarines and aircraft under the leadership of Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar will showcase India’s maritime capability and versatility. President Draupadi Murmu, Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces will witness the event as a special guest.
India celebrates 04 December every year as Navy Day to remember the role and achievements of the Indian Navy in ‘Operation Trident’ during the 1971 war with Pakistan. This year India is starting ‘Amrit Kaal’ on completion of 75 years of its independence. Traditionally Navy Day celebrations have so far been held in New Delhi in the presence of the President and other dignitaries. This year for the first time Navy Day celebrations are being held outside the national capital.
Navy Spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said that the Navy is ready to showcase India’s combat power and capability through ‘Operational Demonstration’ at Visakhapatnam on 04 December. President Draupadi Murmu, Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces will witness the event as a special guest. Several dignitaries from the central and state governments are expected to attend the event, which will be hosted by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar.
The naval ships, submarines and aircraft will showcase India’s maritime capability and versatility, he added. Special Forces of the Eastern, Western and Southern Commands of the Navy will also participate in the event. The event will conclude with a sunset ceremony and lighting of the ships at the anchorage. He said that the aim of Navy Day celebration is to highlight the contribution of Navy towards national security.
