Washington: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s campaign has confirmed that it was targeted by foreign hackers, following a similar claim by rival Donald Trump’s campaign. The campaign claims that it was notified by the FBI in July of a foreign actor influence operation.
The campaign has robust cybersecurity measures in place and is not aware of any security breaches resulting from these efforts. The campaign has not provided any indication of which foreign power is believed to be behind the attempt but remains in contact with law enforcement agencies.
The US State Department warned Iran of consequences over election interference following Trump’s announcement of the hack. The Trump campaign suggested that Iran was behind the breach, and warned media outlets against reprinting the documents. US intelligence concluded that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to support Trump, who has rejected the findings.
