Kerala: Two Media Personnel, Boat Driver Arrested for Filming Iranian Ship at Cochin Port

Kochi: Two media persons and a boat driver were arrested on Saturday for allegedly trespassing into the high-security zone of the Cochin Port harbour and taking photographs and videos of an Iranian ship, police said.

 

According to the police, the accused include a reporter of a prominent television channel, the channel’s cameraman, and the driver of a speed boat used to approach the vessel.

 

Officials said the Iranian ship had anchored at the port as part of a diplomatic decision by the Government of India for life-saving purposes.

 

Based on information received, the Harbour police registered a case and arrested the three accused.

 

According to the FIR, the accused allegedly entered the Southern Coil Berth (SCB), a high-security area of the Cochin Port harbour located at Willingdon Island, at around 7.50 am without authorisation.

 

Police said the accused also attempted to circulate the visuals of the vessel, which could potentially pose a threat to national security.

 

The Harbour Crime police registered a case under Section 329(3) (criminal trespass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant provisions of the Official SecrKerala: Two Media Personnel, Boat Driver Arrested for Filming Iranian Ship at Cochin Portts Act
