Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has vehemently criticized the government’s treatment of locomotive pilots, describing their working conditions as “inhumane.” He asserted that such conditions not only violate the rights of the pilots but also endanger the safety of millions of train passengers.
Sharing a report on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi highlighted distressing claims from female employees regarding eight-hour shifts without toilet access and the government’s rejection of various leave requests. He recounted his previous meeting with loco pilots, revealing concerns over their 14-hour shifts, continuous night duties, and lack of rest and basic facilities. After accidents, the government attributes incidents to “human errors,” overlooking the inhumane conditions contributing to these issues.
Gandhi emphasized the pilots’ demands for fixed hours and improved environments, criticizing the government’s superficial response of merely forming a committee. He affirmed solidarity with the pilots, insisting that the fight for justice will persist until the government addresses their grievances.
