India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has rejoined the Mumbai Indians squad ahead of their IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 7 at Wankhede Stadium. However, it is unlikely he will play, having recently returned from a lengthy injury absence. Bumrah had been sidelined with a back injury sustained during the final Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. Following a five-week offloading recommendation from the BCCI medical team starting in January, he missed the white-ball series against England and the Champions Trophy. After undergoing back surgery, he completed rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and gradually ramped up his bowling workload in preparation for fitness tests.
The Mumbai Indians announced his return via a “Game of Thrones”-themed video on Instagram featuring his wife Sanjana Ganesan reminiscing about his journey from a cub to a lion. The team currently holds a 1-3 record after four IPL 2025 matches, with new players stepping in during Bumrah’s absence. Bumrah, who debuted in 2013, has been key for MI, securing 165 wickets in 133 matches, with 2023 being the only season he missed due to injury.
