Amid rising tensions with Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre has restructured the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB). Former RAW chief Alok Joshi has been appointed as the new head.

According to sources, the newly formed seven-member board includes former senior officers from the armed forces, police, and diplomatic services. The new members include retired military officers Air Marshal P.M. Sinha (former Western Air Commander), Lieutenant General A.K. Singh (former Southern Army Commander), Rear Admiral Monty Khanna (retired military officer), Rajeev Ranjan Verma (former IPS officer), Manmohan Singh (former IPS officer), and B. Venkatesh Verma (retired IFS officer).

The NSAB, established in December 1998, advises the National Security Council (NSC) on long-term security policies.
