TGSRTC plans to expand 2,800 electric buses by 2027

Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation(TGSRTC) is  planning to convert diesel buses into electric vehicles and significantly expand its e-bus fleet in Hyderabad.

TGSRTC is focusing on retrofitting technology to transform ageing diesel buses into electric ones, a step officials describe as a first-of-its-kind initiative by a state-run transport utility in the country.

The RTC has set a target of inducting 2,800 electric buses within Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road Hyderabad limits by 2027. At present, 325 electric buses are operating from six depots across the city, and another 175 buses are slated to join the fleet this year. Charging infrastructure is being expanded to 19 additional depots, while proposals have been prepared for 10 new depots and 10 charging centres.
