UP Railway Stations Renamed; Akhilesh criticizes BJP government

Lucknow: Eight railway stations in the Lucknow division of Northern Railways have been officially renamed after saints and freedom fighters. The renaming was ordered by the Northern Railways, with Kasimpur Halt Railway Station now known as Jais City Railway Station.

The stations were renamed after a demand made by former Amethi MP Smriti Irani to preserve the cultural identity and heritage of the place. The stations were renamed after several temples of Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali near them.

Nihalgarh Railway Station was renamed after Maharaja Bijli Pasi, a king from the community, and Warisganj after Amar Shahid Bhale Sultan, who fought against the British in 1857. The Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the BJP government for the renaming exercise and called for the focus on improving the condition of railway stations and preventing train accidents.

Yadav also called for the BJP government to focus on improving the condition of railway stations and preventing record-breaking rail accidents.
