Dehradun: A communal row has surfaced in Uttarakhand after signboards prohibiting the entry of “non-Hindus, Rohingya Muslims and hawkers” were allegedly installed at the entry points of several villages in Rudraprayag district.
The move, which was attributed to orders from the gram sabha, has raised concerns and prompted the state police to launch an investigation. The signboards, written in Hindi, carry a strict warning and threaten punitive action against those who violate the rules.
The DGP of Uttarakhand has ordered the local police and intelligence unit to look into the matter and take appropriate action. The village heads have also been called for a meeting to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.
However, the pradhan of Nyalsu village claims that the signboards were installed by villagers to prevent hawkers from entering without police verification. The issue came to light after two Muslim delegations met with the DGP and expressed their concerns about increasing communal tensions in the region.
This incident further highlights the need for tolerance and harmony in society.
