Vettori expresses disappointment over team’s unmet high expectations and performances

SRH’s IPL 2025 campaign took a hit with their fourth consecutive loss, prompting coach Daniel Vettori to analyze their challenges. He noted the necessity to respect playing conditions and better assess the game, acknowledging that their top three batsmen struggled against well-planned bowling from opponents.

Vettori remarked on the pitch not being a typical Hyderabad wicket, describing it as slow and difficult for batters. He mentioned that SRH aimed for a target score of 160-170 but ended up falling short by around 20 runs, despite conditions improving as night fell. He expressed confidence in his players, indicating that if they could form partnerships and strategically attack in the latter stages, they could have reached their goal.

The coach emphasized the importance of more runs to apply pressure and commended Gujarat Titans (GT) for their clear understanding of the match conditions. Despite starting the season strong with a notable score of 286 for 6 against Rajasthan Royals, SRH’s performance has declined since then. While Vettori doesn’t believe there’s a reason to panic yet, he acknowledged the urgency for the team to regroup and bounce back ahead of their upcoming match against Punjab Kings on April 12.

Vettori expressed confidence in himself and Cummins, indicating they have never panicked despite their team’s current struggles. He acknowledged the severe impact of losing four consecutive matches, which complicates the season, especially after the high expectations set from last year’s second-place finish and a strong start.

Vettori pointed out that the team has not performed to its potential across all three disciplines, emphasizing poor fielding as a significant issue. He identified this as a focus area to improve before their match against Punjab, declaring that if the team can regain momentum, they are still a strong contender. While acknowledging that much attention has been on the batters, Vettori insisted that the team needs improvement in all aspects of their game. He reflected on last year’s performance, where they regularly posted big scores and managed to defend them.

Currently, however, the batting unit has struggled to produce substantial totals, affected by various factors. Despite these difficulties, Vettori remains optimistic about the IPL’s quick match turnaround, allowing for opportunities for individual brilliance and team success. He noted that while the batting group retains some confidence, it is crucial for the collective team effort to rise to the occasion and perform effectively moving forward.
