Activist, Leader, and Protector: The Inspiring Work of Dr. Lubna Sarwath for a Greener Tomorrow

Hyderabad:  Environmental and social activist, Congress leader, and advocate Dr. Lubna Sarwath has dedicated her life to protecting the environment.

She has been actively involved in fighting for the rights of the environment and its inhabitants, and is known for her relentless efforts to hold corporations accountable for their actions. Recently, she wrote a letter to the Telangana forests and environment minister, urging her to take action against the Phoenix Group for operating a ready-mix concrete plant near Mamasani Kunta in Puppalguda village.

Despite multiple complaints and orders from the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB), the state government has continuously ignored the issue, allowing the plant to operate and endangering the lives of nearby residents. Dr. Sarwath has been involved in a legal battle with the Phoenix Group since 2020 for their encroachment on Narsinghi Lake 2, Mekasani Kunta, Mamasani Kunta, and Bhulkapur Nala.

She has questioned the TGPCB’s decision to allow a red category commercial industry to operate near a residential area, despite numerous complaints and evidence of pollution. Despite closure orders being issued by the TGPCB in 2022, they were later revoked, allowing the plant to continue its operations.

Dr. Sarwath’s determination and persistence in fighting for environmental justice serves as an inspiration for others to stand up against corporations that prioritize profit over the health of our planet and its people.
