Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has embarked on a significant state visit to Thailand, marking the first such trip in the 65-year history of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Thailand. This five-day visit includes participation in the BIMSTEC Summit and is expected to lead to the signing of several agreements between the two nations, particularly in the tourism sector. Accompanied by various ministers and industrialists, Prime Minister Oli’s formal discussions with the Thai Prime Minister are scheduled for April 2, followed by a joint press conference.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana emphasized the historic nature of this visit, highlighting plans for various governmental and non-governmental agreements beneficial to tourism development. Additionally, Prime Minister Oli will visit the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, where he intends to announce a financial contribution of $100,000 due to the institution’s financial challenges, reflecting Nepal’s role in its establishment.
Commencing on April 3, Oli will also engage in the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, where he anticipates meetings with the heads of state from member countries, including Prime Ministers from India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, thereby enhancing regional cooperation and collaboration.
