In the case of Meeran Haider, linked to the conspiracy of the Delhi riots, he stated that he neither participated in any meetings nor was he part of any chat group where discussions regarding inciting violence took place. A bench headed by Justice Navin Chawla ordered the next hearing of the case to be held in May.
During the hearing, the lawyer representing Meeran Haider mentioned that he was a young leader and a student of Jamia University. He stated that Meeran Haider only participated in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and was not involved in any conspiracy to incite riots. No weapons were recovered from him.
On April 5, 2022, the Karkardooma Court rejected Meeran Haider’s bail application. An FIR has been registered against him under the UAPA in connection with the Delhi violence case. He faces charges under sections 13, 16, 17, 18 of the UAPA, as well as sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, and sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
It is noteworthy that 53 people were killed and around two hundred injured in the riots that occurred in Northeast Delhi.
