Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced on Wednesday that Pakistani diplomats have been declared persona non grata and must leave India within a week. This decision stemmed from a Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Following the CCS meeting, PM Modi held a one-on-one discussion with Amit Shah.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that all military advisers from Pakistan in India are also persona non grata. This announcement follows the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indians and a Nepali citizen.
Additionally, the MEA has prohibited Pakistani nationals from traveling to India on SAARC exempt visas, requiring those already in India under these visas to leave within 48 hours. Any previously issued SPES visas to Pakistanis are now cancelled, with the same 48-hour exit requirement applied. New Delhi has also decided to withdraw its Defence, Navy, and Air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, rendering those positions annulled.
An all-party meeting is anticipated, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, to discuss further actions.
