Hyderabad: On the occasion of Republic Day celebrations, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi ‘hoisted’ the national flag
at the Red Fort.
Hoisting involves raising the flag from the bottom of the pole, symbolising India’s emergence as a free nation after gaining independence from British rule in 1947.
This ceremony is accompanied by a guard of honour and the playing of the national anthem, marking the celebration of India’s freedom.
The flag symbolises that India is an independent and democratic country which is governed by the people, for the people.
Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution, which officially established India as a sovereign, democratic republic.
