Senior citizens are the link to the past and guides to the future: President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu, attended the ‘Ageing with Dignity’ event at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre on May 2, 2025, focusing on senior citizens’ welfare. Organized by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the event marked the launch of a senior citizens welfare portal, virtual inaugurations of senior homes, distribution of assistive devices, and an MoU signing with Brahmakumaris.

During her address, the President emphasized the cultural value of respecting elders, noting that grandparents often serve as emotional support within families. She highlighted the significance of senior citizens in providing guidance and inspiration to the youth, leveraging their wealth of experience to navigate challenges. The President advocated for old age as a time for spiritual empowerment, encouraging seniors to reflect on their lives and contribute positively to society.

Furthermore, she called for collective responsibility to ensure seniors experience dignity and active engagement in life. The President expressed satisfaction with government initiatives aimed at empowering the elderly, urging citizens to prioritize the happiness and well-being of seniors, value their guidance, and appreciate their companionship.
