Tripura’s HIV Crisis: 828 Students Test Positive, 47 Fatalities

Tripura: A report from Tripura has revealed that 828 students have tested positive for HIV, with 47 fatalities reported. The Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) attributes the crisis to intravenous drug use among students, with most affected students coming from affluent families.

HIV/AIDS remains a major global health issue, linked to needle sharing and risky injection practices. Harm reduction strategies like needle exchange programs are needed to combat the spread of the virus. However, challenges such as stigma, legal barriers, and complex social factors persist. Comprehensive approaches involving public health, social services, and community engagement are essential to address this issue effectively.
